1 December 2015
The term of office of the current Teaching Council comes to an end in March 2016. The Council has 37 members and 16 of these are teachers who are elected by teachers. An election for teacher members will open in February and close in early March.
Teachers are strongly encouraged to vote. This is an important opportunity to help lead the development of national policy as it relates to teaching and learning, and regulation of the teaching profession. The elected members that you vote for will be in a position to make a significant contribution to this.

Nominations
Nomination as a candidate can be submitted between 8 January and 29 January. Forms will be available on this website before and during that period.
An e-zine will be issued at this time and an announcement will be placed in three national newspapers and on this website. Each teacher seeking nomination will need the signatures of 15 teachers. These teachers must be registered to vote in the electoral category and the geographic constituency of the teacher whose nomination they are supporting. The categories and constituencies are shown below.
Information about the nominated candidates will be available on this website in early February.
Electoral Roll
The Electoral Roll, the list of registered teachers who may vote in the election, was finalised on 30 September 2015. Any teacher registered on that date is entitled to vote.
The Electoral Roll will be available for inspection from 1 December. Limited information from the electoral roll (name, registration number, category and constituency) will be available online. This is to help teachers to check that they are registered to vote. If you would like to request a change to your details on the electoral roll, please contact elections@ teachingcouncil.ie before 22 December.
How to vote
Voting will take place online. We hope that this will encourage more teachers to vote by making it quick and easy. You can vote securely on any device – PC, laptop, tablet or smartphone. We will send you a letter giving you instructions and two security pin numbers.
Voting will be open from 22 February to noon on 9 March.
Election outcome
The results of the election will be announced as soon as possible after the election has closed and the new Council will be formally appointed soon after.
This website will be kept updated over the coming months. E-zines will also be issued to teachers on key dates.
