Feedback

Since the Council's Research Bursary Schemes were established in 2007, many recipients have commented on the benefit the bursaries have had for them as individuals. This is both in terms of their own professional development, and also at a wider level, in terms of the benefits for their colleagues and the students they teach.

“This bursary will help my professional development in a number of ways. As a result of carrying out this research my own subject knowledge and the manner in which I deliver the subject have been positively affected and this will inevitably have a positive effect on my pupils.”

Maria Sheehan, St. Caimin’s Community School, Shannon, Co Clare, researching the cognitive ability and thinking skills of Junior and Leaving Certificate Science and Chemistry pupils (2009/2010).

 “Being awarded this bursary is a significant personal and professional achievement. It will impact directly on my teaching, as my research is locally based.”

 “This bursary award will benefit my research and has provided me with an opportunity to enhance my reflective practitioner skills in many ways."

Sinéad Corrigan, Monaghan Institute of Further Education and Training, researching learner attitudes in the FE sector, with a focus on assessment (2009/2010).

“This bursary from the Teaching Council is an acknowledgement of the importance of teachers undertaking research in order to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom. As a result, it will encourage me to continue and complete the research as I feel it will be of benefit to other language teachers in Ireland.”

Eileen Butler, De La Salle College, Macroom, researching the use of co-operative learning to improve the oral proficiency of students (2008/2009).

“It is a great personal achievement to be awarded this research bursary and it reaffirms the significance and validity of my research which will raise the awareness and profiles of students with Asperger’s syndrome in Irish schools today, and the problems they face when making the transition from Primary to Post-Primary school”.

Máire Regan-Walsh, Scoil Iósaif Naofa, Oranmore, researching the impact of ICT on the attitudes of fifth-class boys in an English-speaking primary school to the teaching and learning of Irish (2008/2009).
