Teachers require vetting for initial registration, renewal of registration (retrospective vetting) and employment purposes.
Teachers applying for registration are required to provide documentary and other evidence to enable the Council to satisfy itself that a person is a fit and proper person to be admitted to the register as set out in Section 31(5)(b) of the Teaching Council Acts 2001 to 2012 and Section 10(1)(b) of the Teaching Council [Registration] Regulations 2016 and Teaching Council [Registration] (Amendments) Regulations 2016.
Renewal of Registration (Retrospective Vetting)
Teachers who have not been previously vetted through the Council are required to undergo Retrospective Vetting as set out in Section 33 (5)(a) of the Teaching Council Acts 2001 to 2012 and Section (1)(f) of the Teaching Council (Registration) (Amendment) Regulations 2016. Registered teachers can check their vetting status by logging on to the My Registration section of the Teaching Council website www.teachingcouncil.ie.
The vetting requirements for teachers applying for vetting for reasons of employment are set out in Department of Education and Skills Circular Letters.
