IMPORTANT UPDATE
REGISTRATION OF NEWLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS
AUGUST 2010
Applicants wishing to register with The Teaching Council should note that there has been a delay in the processing of Garda Vetting application forms at the Garda Central Vetting Unit (GCVU). The Council has been advised by the GCVU that application forms submitted by The Teaching Council are being prioritised. Vetting letters will be issued by the Council as soon as possible thereafter. The current turnaround time for routine vetting is 6-8 weeks.
Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs)
of teacher education programmes in Ireland in 2010
Please note that Garda Vetting is a prerequisite for registration. If applicants have not received their Vetting letter from The Teaching Council, they should indicate this on the relevant part of the Application Form for Registration (see next) and return this as soon as possible to the Council.
The Council has issued a personalised Application Form for Registration to all NQTs whose details and results were transferred by their college or university. PLEASE NOTE that these forms should be submitted to the Council no later than 6 August 2010 to ensure registration for the commencement of the school year in 2010. For more up to date information please click here.
Important information for students sitting
repeat/supplemental examinations or practicals
The examination results for students sitting repeat/supplemental examinations or practicals will not be transferred to The Teaching Council. As a result, these students will not be issued with an Application for Registration as an NQT. Such applicants will be required to undergo the standard registration application process and may download the relevant registration application form byclicking here.
Do you intend to start teaching or change schools in the 2010/2011 School Year?
If you are planning to take up a teaching position in a Department of Education and Skills funded school on or after September 2010, you will need to be registered with The Teaching Council in order to comply with Departmental employment circulars.
The Council strongly recommends that applicants apply for registration a minimum of four months before taking up employment. Applicants should note that routine Garda Vetting, which forms part of the registration process, is currently taking 6-8 weeks.
