Dear Colleagues,
With the commencement of a new academic year, we would like to express our appreciation for the immense work you undertake and extend our best wishes to all members of the school community.
The importance of our teachers cannot be overstated, they play a pivotal role in shaping our communities by imparting knowledge, instilling values, and nurturing a love for learning. The teaching profession in Ireland has always been marked by its commitment to excellence. This unwavering dedication, which you promote and develop, has set a commendable benchmark for all teachers and is valued by the wider community.
It is also an opportune time to reflect upon the responsibilities accompanying the role of teachers. The
Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers
(Updated 2nd Edition 2016) acts as a guiding compass throughout a teacher's career and is anchored by the values of Respect, Care, Integrity, and Trust.
It is important to remind all teachers of these responsibilities and the standards outlined in the ‘Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers’. Paragraph 2.5 of the ‘Code of Professional Conduct for Teachers’ which reminds teachers to maintain professional integrity and
'avoid conflict between their professional work and private interests which could reasonably be deemed to impact negatively on pupils/students.’
If issues or concerns arise it is our belief that they are best addressed at local level where the greatest prospect of resolution lies. As a support, the Council has published
Guidance for Registered Teachers About the Use of Social Media and Electronic Communications.
Please note that all registrants have been sent an email on the Code of Professional Conduct.
We wish you the best in the academic year ahead and thank you for your continued co-operation and support.
Warm regards,
|
