A Chara, In the context of the public health situation and recognising the challenge that many schools are facing to secure substitute teachers at primary and post-primary level, the Teaching Council has introduced an amendment to the Teaching Council (Registration) Regulations. This amendment was signed by the Minister for Education Norma Foley TD, together with Chairperson of the Teaching Council, Michelle Keane, and I as the Acting Director of the Teaching Council. This amendment provides for, on a timebound basis, primary and post-primary teachers who have qualified outside of Ireland to apply for registration and complete their induction here in Ireland, subject to meeting the eligibility and qualification requirements. From 22 February 2023, the Teaching Council will accept applications for registration from primary and post-primary teachers who have qualified outside of Ireland but have not completed the required period of induction in the country in which they qualified. If you have a friend or family member or are aware of anyone within your professional network who has qualified or is about to qualify as a teacher outside of Ireland, we encourage you to bring this important update to their attention. Applications will be accepted from 22 February 2023 until 1 February 2024. Information on eligibility requirements and how to apply for registration can be found here. This measure taken by the Teaching Council is to assist with teacher supply challenges. I want to thank you sincerely for your continued support and dedication as a registered teacher, supporting students and schools nationwide. |
