Wellbeing-6At the Teaching Council, we hold the wellbeing of all teachers and learners in the highest regard. In this section, you will find information and resources to support you and the wellbeing of your school community.

Further resources and e-books on wellbeing can be accessed through your Teaching Council portal.

Wellbeing For All Group

As well as online resources, the Teaching Council is part of the Wellbeing for All Group.

Personal Supports

  • Spectrum.Life is the provider of the Employee Assistance Support for teachers. Free phone 1800 411 057 or text 'Hi' to 087 145 2056 on SMS or 087 369 0010 on WhatsApp. Each telephone call is answered by a Case Manager who is a qualified counsellor.

This employee assistance and wellbeing programme service provides teachers and their immediate family members with access to confidential  counselling (supportive and solution-focused). It can assist teachers in coping with the effect of personal and work-related issues. The service is free and confidential and available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to teachers.

This movement for wellbeing campaigns on driving social change in key areas of mental wellness, runs events and has an excellent website with articles around different aspects of mental health.

ReachOut.com is an online youth mental health service that focuses on people aged 12 to 25 with emphasis on peer support.

Provides a service where someone listens in confidence and without judgement, seven days a week. Contact by phone or online through an instant messaging service or by going to a peer support group.

The Samaritans offer a safe place for you to talk at any time, about anything that is getting to you. You don’t have to be suicidal. Don’t suffer alone.

Part of the HSE, this site covers advice, information and support services for mental health and wellbeing.

The Eating Disorders Association of Ireland – an information and support service for eating disorders.

If you are experiencing depression or bipolar disorder, Aware has a free support line, support email and nationwide support groups.

Pieta provides a free, therapeutic approach to people who are in suicidal distress and those who engage in self-harm.

Professional Supports

    Collaboration and peer learning is supported at the festival through workshops and panel discussions, which are aimed at reflecting the complexity of teaching and the commitment of teachers to continuous improvement in teaching.

 

SUPPORT SERVICES

Professional Development Service for Teachers has resources aimed at the primary and post-primary sectors. They run workshops and have CPD opportunities for teachers; keep an eye on their page.

Their Health and Wellbeing Team have developed a new resource called .'Breathe - Self-Regulation and Relaxation Techniques for Children' which features a range of calming breathing techniques, written activities and guided visualisations that children can use to bring about a sense of peace and comfort in any situation. The resource can be accessed here

This site provides resources and information for teachers in different subject areas.

The Further Education Support Service website has a range of resources for the further education sector. They also deliver CPD.

This is the umbrella organisation of the education centres in Ireland (21 full-time and 9 part-time). The education centres run courses for teachers, many of which are free.

CSL offers mentoring and coaching to school leaders. 

 

TEACHERS' UNIONS

The Teachers’ Union of Ireland provides information on pay and conditions, and has resources for teachers in both post-primary and further education.

PRINCIPAL NETWORKS

IPPN is the officially-recognised professional body for the leaders of Irish primary schools.

The NAPD website acts as a “one stop shop” offering a range of supports and resources to school leaders during their busy working day.

The NIPT supports Newly Qualified Teachers and their professional support team during the induction phase.

Financial Supports

MABS is the State’s money advice service, guiding people through dealing with problem debt for more than twenty years. MABS is free, confidential and independent.
