Teachers must renew their registration annually. Each year before the renewal date, the Council will send a reminder notice to all registered teachers at their last notified email address.
Registration Renewal Fee
The Council is a self-funding body. It is funded primarily by annual registration renewal fees, as provided for in Section 23 of the Teaching Council Act, 2001 - 2015. The initial registration fee is €90 and with effect from 1 January 2013, the annual registration renewal fee has been set at €65.
Paying the Fee
The most efficient way to renew your registration is online with credit/debit card by logging in to My Registration on the Teaching Council website.

Removal of Names from the Register
Under the provisions of the Teaching Council Act, 2001 - 2015 (Section 33), registration is valid for 12 months from the date of registration. To remain on the Register, a registered teacher must renew his or her registration before the current period of registration expires.
A Registration Renewal Notice will be emailed to teachers by the Teaching Council approximately six weeks in advance of their renewal date. If registration is not renewed by the expiry date, a Final Notice will be issued by tracked post. If registration is not renewed within thirty days of the date on the Final Notice, the teacher’s name will automatically be removed from the register.
A teacher may re-apply for registration at any time by completing the full application process, including vetting through the National Vetting Bureau (NVB) and the submission of transcripts and other supporting documentation. Please note, registration cannot be completed without a successful NVB vetting result and at periods of high demand, vetting may take a number of weeks to complete.

Renewals/Expiring Conditions
Should you hold expiring conditions that are expiring within 6 months of your renewal date, you will not be able to renew your registration until you submit evidence of completion of the condition(s) or an application for an extension request via 'My Registration'. You must address conditions expiring prior to your renewal date otherwise you will lapse from the Register.
Renewals/Re-vetting
You will not be able to renew your registration until you undergo online vetting with the NVB (should you be requested to re-vet by the Teaching Council). You must address any invitation to re-vet, prior to your renewal date, otherwise you will lapse from the Register on your renewal date.
Renewal Fee Income Tax Relief
The Registration Renewal Fee has been approved by the Revenue Commissioners as a work expense for income tax purposes.
Income tax relief can be claimed on the annual registration renewal fee as part of the flat rate expense allowance for teachers. This can be done by logging in to your MyAccount on www.Revenue.ie. Any queries in relation to the tax relief should be directed to Revenue.
