Post-qualification employment (PQE)

If you are a post-primary teacher registered before 1 June 2020, post-qualification employment (PQE) may be an option in limited circumstances.

For all other circumstances and teachers registered on or after 1 June 2020, Droichead is the only route of induction

What was PQE?

Post-qualification employment (PQE) was a condition of registration which applied to all newly registered post- primary teachers other than those doing Droichead.

To have met the condition of PQE, teachers had to complete a period of post-qualification employment.

As a post-primary teacher who has completed their teacher education outside of the Republic of Ireland, you are required to gain knowledge of the history and structure of the Irish education system before you can fully register.
Application Processing Timeframes
Applicants for registration are asked to ensure that all forms and supporting documentation submitted are correct and fully completed in advance of submission, as otherwise this leads to additional unnecessary delays for both the applicant and others.
Application for an extension to a period of conditional registration
If you are unable to complete the requirements of a registration condition within the timeframe, you may apply to the Council for an extension.
