Registration

The Teaching Council is responsible for registering teachers.

This involves:

• Maintaining the Register of Teachers 
• Setting standards for entry onto the Register 
• Assessing applications for entry onto the Register 

In the Republic of Ireland, only teachers who have met the registration requirements of the Teaching Council are allowed to teach in state-recognised primary and post-primary schools and have their salaries paid from state funds.
